Laura Mvula

I had a chat with the exceptional musician Laura Mvula a couple of days after seeing her live show in Tokyo in June 2013. One of the BBC Sound of 2013 nominees Laura’s music is mezmerizing both recorded and live – Laura singing and playing piano plus her band featuring drums, keyboards, double bass, cello, violin, harp and everyone on backing vocals!!

In April 2013 I met up with British graphic designer Jonathan Barnbrook and we discussed his work including designing the jacket of the latest David Bowie album The Next Day, curating the Berlin period of the David Bowie retrospective at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the logo for the Roppongi Hills complex in Tokyo.

The Bootleg Beatles

I haven’t met a Beatle yet but I have now met The Bootleg Beatles!! They’ve performed at Buckingham Palace for the Queen and been on tour with Oasis, they’ll perform at Glastonbury Festival 2013 and return to the Albert Hall London in 2014. Their first time in Japan they played the legendary Budokan and now on their return they play for an intimate audience at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Tokyo 10th Anniversary Party on Thursday May 30th 2013.

Sex Pistols / Public Image Limited (PIL) legend John Lydon had a telephone conversation with me and Maddie on our Inter FM program LHR – London Hit Radio on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th of January 2013.

Public Image Limited released the album This Is PIL in 2012 and are coming to Japan for live shows in April 2013.

We spoke with John at his home in LA.. the fax machine even butted in on our conversation, but I didn’t want to ask him too many questions, I just wanted him to talk..
